Recently small wind systems have increased in popularity. Interestingly, hybrid solar/wind systems often provide the lowest total cost per KWH. See Detronics wind solar energy comparison.

It should be noted that small wind implementations are highly dependent on local wind conditions.

At this point each Australian state government has its own wind map. The wind map to the right is a screen shot from taken from Sustainability Victoria - (unfortunately requires IE6 or later)
