Here are some simple and effective changes you can make to conserve water.

Indoors

• Use a water efficient dishwater and only use it when full
• Install flow control valves and aerators for taps
• Use a front loading washing machine - this could save 16,000 litres per household annually
• When purchasing a new washing machine choose one with a 4 star energy rating or above
• Install a 3 star water efficient showerhead - this could save up to 12,000 litres
• Reduce shower time to 4 minutes - this could save up to 13,800 litres
• Replace your single flush toilet with a 6/3 dual-flush or better - this could save 12,400 litres

Outdoors

• Mulch the garden - this could cut evaporation by up to 70%
• If you have a pool, use a pool cover to reduce evaporation by about 90%
• Rainwater tanks are a good option, but only reach their full potential when connected to the toilet, laundry and other household uses.
