Urbanisation, or increasing urban density, is one society's most profound transformations in the 20th century, and is fueled by an exodus from rural areas.

Since 2007, more than half the world's population has been living in cities.

Like European and North American cities, Dubai has experienced a threefold increase in its population. But in this city of more than 1.5 million people, with multiple real estate developments requiring a massive workforce, the majority of the population is not for the region, but comes for neighbouring countries and Southeast Asia.
