The Balwyn North Primary School in Melbourne, Australia has become one of the first schools in Australia to install a solar power system under a joint state and federal government initiative. The school has installed a solar array with:

  • 30 solar panels
  • 4.2kW power output
  • comprehensive monitoring system which publishes data on a website

Students at the school are about to use the information for the solar and weather monitoring stations in mats, science and other subjects to see how weather affects bot the schools's consumption of energy and the solar systems ability to produce power.

The school has also installed a FutureSwitch that reduces energy waste by turning off appliances remotely and reducing standby power leakage which could result in a 30% decrease in the school's energy bills.
